THUNDER

Hi, I'm Thunder, but don't worry, I know how to be very quiet. I came to Sonoma County Animal Care and Control with my sister Rain. The wonderful people from We Care saw me and brought me to their sanctuary.

I like people with gentle hands and soft voices. I'd get along with other cats and maybe even a dog if it wasn't too noisy and didn't chase me.

Whenever Thunder is walking, he sticks his tail straight up in the air, without fail. We Care calls him their little submarine because his tail looks like the periscope thing that sticks up.

I am a neutered male, gray domestic longhair.
I was estimated to be about 14 months old in 2011.

I have been in rescue since 3/11/2011

ACE
that's me. Top of the line, A#1

Ace is one of a kind. He needs to be an indoor cat because he is declawed. He loves to play with toys and had a toy mouse that he throws in the air and chases. He would be best in a home with teenagers. Dogs and other cats are okay, but he would prefer to be the only cat in the home.

I have been at a shelter since 06/11/2011

If you are looking for the perfect companion, Ace is your boy!.

Rosie

Cute little Rosie is your ticket into the small dog world. She is the darling of her group, all of which came from Napa during a recent Pet Partnership trip.

Her needs are simple, any size home, daily neighborhood walks, squeaky toys are the best, I love playing ferch, and first time families would be fine. She would be happy with children however they should be old enough to be respectful with their handling. Playing with toys and being with her people are her favorite past time and it is true great things do come in small packages.

Ingrid loves people, shes is great with kids, and she loves all the attention she can get.

She has been test with a few big dogs and has done fine. Smaller dogs she wants to chase. We have been working on the issue.

Parker

Intake date: 10/15/2012
Chihuahua Cross
Sex Male
Color Charcoal
Weight 11.8 lbs
Neutered
Age Adult
Size Small

Parker has that allusive breed mix that will keep you guessing. There is no question he is unique. He is a stud-muffin with a seal coat and a charming personality. This is one of the main reasons our Pet Partnership team felt compelled to bring him back to Marin.

Parker grows on you. You can use his "foodie" status to improve his training skills once you enroll him into "Family Dog 1" class. He was housed with another small polite dog; however sharing is not high on his list and he would prefer to be an only dog. Parker wants to start fresh and is looking for some guidance. His ideal household would be a first time family with older (10+) children. Parker is irresistible and with a little help from his friends will make a wonderful lifelong companion.

Daisy

Thanks for checking out my profile, I'm Daisy. I came to the shelter when my owner had to move somewhere that didn't allow cats. I am slowly making progress here, but I am still very reclusive and scared. I do love to be petted and will make someone a good companion if given the chance to come out of my shell. If you are patient and kind, and have a quiet household where I can gradually get to know you, that's the recipie for my purr-fect forever home!

Goblin HS

A Little Bit About Me

Goblin comes to us from Napa Animal Shelter as part of our Pet Partnership program. He is an active, engaging young dog who LOVES toys and balls. He will run around and entertain himself with a squeaky toy or ball in his mouth. One of his favorite games however, is keep-away so his new adopter with have to work with him on a good recall. Once he has bonded with his new person that will be much easier. Goblin was very tolerant of all handling making him appropriate for kids as young as 6. Remember that dogs and kids should always be supervised in their interaction. We are not sure whether Goblin is completely housetrained so don't give him run of the house at the beginning. Keep him in an area where he can be supervised until you are sure.

Goblin is very food motivated so training should go well. Sign him up for a Small Dog I class and go from there. He was good with all the dogs he met here so he should make a fine second dog in the household provided he is well matched with the resident dog.

If you are looking for a happy, fun young dog to share your life, take a look at Goblin, he may be your perfect match!

GRIFFIN

Domestic Medium Hair
Male, Orange Tabby / White
Weight 15.9 lbs
Neutered
Age Adult
Size large

Lovely Griffin hitched a ride with our Pet Partnership van from Napa County, hoping for a new home in Marin. His beautiful orange long hair coat really stands out, especially with his white highlights, including a cute white nose, which makes him a sun risk if let outside. We found Griffin to be friendly, social, and fun, and very focused on the door to the outside. Please keep him safely away from doors that open, especially in the beginning before he knows he is home. When you take Griffin home please set him up in a room with all he needs, and visit him often for a cuddle to bond, and a swinging wand toy to help him regain his figure, and he will soon be gracing your entire home with his beauty and fun personality.

As my name implies, I am not your average cat. Ok, I admit it, I'm a bit of a snob. Just look at my luxurious coat and gorgeous eyes, I know I'm special! As you can imagine, I will be happiest if I am the only cat in the house. Some people call me standoffish, and it's true I prefer to be worshipped on my own terms, but that also means I do fine being by myself a lot. I would love nothing more than to be the new highlight of your household, so don't take my word for it, come in and see how beautiful I am today!

HI -- I'm Celine, a Rat terrier/Chihuahua mix. I'm just a tiny thing but I have a lot of love to give! There's a saying --"always a bridesmaid, never a bride..." and that's kinda how I feel. I've had five kennel mates who've all found homes. I'm patiently waiting for my turn. I'm a fun, happy gal looking for my forever home. Oskar the blind cat enjoying a walk:

DIANA

Diana is what shelter staff named me because I am a bit of a princess. You see, I am blind but I refuse to act like I have a handicap. I am in a communal cat room just like the other cats, and can get around just fine by myself. Ok, every once in a while my aim is off with the litter box, but other than that I don't have any special needs. I am super affectionate and would like a quiet household to settle down in where I can have a lot of lap time with my new owner. Is it you?

I am still shy with people I don't know, but when given the time to warm up and a treat to help sweeten the deal, I do really well. Odie on his foster home couch

ODIE - ID#A214516

I am currently fostering Odie part time. He is a big 'ole love bug and settled into our home as if he's been here all along. He needs a refresher on house training, but is doing well and has learned the doggie door. He LOVES his walks! He is great with my female doxie.

He does need work as far as touching his feet, especially the back ones. He was not protective of his food until I gave him a rawhide bone, and then he became possessive. I would not recommend him to a home with young children, but otherwise, I think he's an awesome boy!

I feel sorry for him knowing that he was in a home and was then left at the shelter. (Elderly owner surrender). I'm sure he was lost and confused, and who wouldn't be grumpy after that? I do believe he's come a very long way. He would make a wonderful pet, and I'm surprised he's still at the shelter.

He was friendly when meeting other small dogs he did not seem interested in shelter cat.

I am a male, black Chihuahua - smooth coated.
I am estimated to be about 8 years old.
I have been at the shelter since 01/30/2013.

Clawdia - 7144

HI -- I am Clawdia. After being on my own in the world for six months, which is most of my life, I am trying to get used to being inside with people. I am sooo curious and want to learn to be a pal. I need a gentle, kind person to help me along. I know I can learn to love being a pampered pet! I also have a knack for hunting, after so much time on my own, so if you are looking for a mouser, I'm your cat. I am a tiny "tortoiseshell" colored kitty. Pretty fancy for a simple girl like me! Come and say hello. I kind of like hanging out in my leopard print cozy bed here at the Shelter. I love a kind word and a scratch under the chin. I might just get used to the civilized world. thank you – Clawdia

INDIE - ID#A287975

At 10 years of age Indie may be the "senior citizen" of the cat rooms, but she has a lot of life left in her. She wants nothing more than a comfy place to sleep and a quiet home where she can relax. Cookie - 7330

Date In: 02-08-2013
Type: Dog Breed: Labrador
Sex: F
Age: 4 Years 1 Months

Hiya, I'm Cookie, a Labrador Retriever mix. I'm a big, friendly dog with lots of energy. Since I have so much energy, I'll require owners that are strong and very active. I'm a smart girl, already house trained and I know several commands. I get along great with other dogs and love to go for long walks. If there are kids in the home, they should be 10 & up - I sometimes forget that I'm a big strong girl and could knock over very little kids on accident. I can't wait to meet you! Just ask for Cookie.

SADIE

Sadie is a female, adorable little blue merle dapple Doxie mix, looking for the perfect lap to share. Once she wiggles her way into your heart, she can be a little possessive, and want to chase away the competition. However, a short and sweet "EH" correction, and suddenly she becomes the little darling she shows herself to be at all other times.

GREAT on the leash, she loves to take her short walks at a comfortable pace. A hearty eater, but not rude. This little girl is a cuddler, and is looking for a snuggler to match.

I am a female, blue merle Dachshund.
I am estimated to be about 8 years old.
I have been at a shelter since 02/09/2013.

Harriet

GENDER: female
BREED: DSH Brown Tabby
AGE: 8 yrs

Harriet is a gentle cat with lots of love to share. She lived as an indoor/outdoor cat in her previous home but doesn't seem to mind living indoors only now. Harriet can be a little shy in new situations so a quiet home with older, gentle children would be best for her. Harriet is used to being the only cat in the home and would prefer to keep it that way.

Aiden
Gender: Male
Breed: DSH Brown Tabby
Age: 6 yrs

Aiden is a calm, friendly cat that has quite a purr. His stress in the shelter has made him over-groom himself and he is getting bald on his sides. This should subside once in a quiet stress-free home. Aiden would prefer to be the only cat, though he has lived with dogs before. He would do best in a home with children ages 8 and up.

BONITA

BREED Terrier, American Pit Bull/Mix
AGE 2 years 1 month 7 days
SEX Female
SIZE Large
COLOR Blue/White
SPAYED

SOME DOGS
NO SMALL CHILDREN

INTAKE DATE 3/11/2013

This dog truly has a heart of gold. Bonita is a very energetic and affectionate dog who needs some work on manners, both with people and with other dogs. She may or may not be able to live with another dog, depending on the situation. We are also working with her on leash training and she is making good progress. Bonita is very willing to learn but will require a patient, dedicated owner who can commit the time to working with her, in order to bring out the best she has to offer. In return, you will get a dog that we like to say is an "ambassador of her breed", gentle, loving and very devoted. She did okay with cats, but should not be placed in a home with small children. If you can commit to putting in the effort with Bonita, she would love to be your new best friend!

JAELYN - ID#A289208

Jaelyn was surrendered by her owner. She was very timid when she first came to the shelter. She is still a little nervous when handling. She is now coming up for attention when out on walks and in the play yard. She was friendly acting when meeting other dogs. She did not seem interested in shelter cats. She lifted head away from food when asked for bowl and she did not seem interested in rawhide. She will need training and some one that will work patiently with her. She would do best in an adult home.

B.K. - ID#A289308

In January 2013 some nice people rescued me from starving on the streets. I was not a happy camper. They were great, but I'm a solo kinda guy, and really don't like the company of dogs, or other cats. Since they had both, they brought me here to find a new home.

Take me home and you'll see my regal qualities, and it would be my pleasure to strut my cunning cat walk for you. When you feel like a hug, I'm your guy, the more you hug me, the more I'll purr for you and never want to let go. I was fine being an indoor only until I figured out how to use the cat door.

I am a male, black domestic shorthair.

Coral - 8209

HI -- I'm Coral, a quiet and gentle lady. Life hasn't been easy for me lately, at least before I got here, which is why I am so very appreciative of everything I have now~ I have a soft, constant purr to show off my newfound happiness. This Shelter thing is pretty great, but a home would be even better. I am an orange female, which apparently makes me rare in the cat world. That doesn't matter to me, though; I am as humble as can be. All is want is a kind heart and a warm lap. I love to snuggle and will melt into your arms. Looking for a warm, quiet, loving companion? Charlene

Labrador/Pit Bull
Spayed
Female - 4Yrs 9Mths
Color Red Brown / White

A Little Bit About Me

Charlene came to us because her previous owner lost his home and could no longer care for her. Charlene spent a great deal of her day outside in the yard although she did sleep inside the house. We speculate that she did not get a great deal of socialization in her life as she is sensitive to her environment and reacts to sudden noises.

Although Charlene lived with another dog and apparently went to dog parks, we found her reaction to other dogs she met here to be somewhat conflicted. Therefore, we feel that dog parks are not a good idea for Charlene at this time.

Charlene really needs a job and a new family. Our behavior staff can give her new adopters suggestions to make her transition into her new family go smoothly. We feel that Charlene would do best in a home with children 16 or older. Enrolling Charlene in a family dog class will help her become more comfortable and confident. It is also a great way for Charlene to build a strong bond with her new adopters as you go through class together.

Charlene is a beautiful girl who is looking forward to her new home with a loving family who will appreciate her wonderful unique qualities.

Sailor

Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua
Neutered
Male - 1Yrs 6Mths (approx)
Color White / Tan

A Little Bit About Me

Sweet little Sailor is looking to find his place in this world. He was found as a stray running in Novato and a good Samaritan brought him to us. The shelter can be a stressful place, after all, so you'll want to go slowly with him. We know there's a funny, friendly, active dog inside him... he just needs your patience, love and encouragement to come out of his shell. He spent almost 2 months at San Quentin as part of our Pen Pals of San Quentin Program. While he was there he did blossom into a sweet, affectionate dog who bonded very closely with his inmate handler and the other inmates he had contact with. Sailor just needs time to get to know new people but once he does he is a happy loving little guy who wants nothing more than to hang out in a nice warm lap. During Sailor's stay his handler kept a daily log. We encourage potential adopters to read it. You will see the transition from shy, nervous dog to a happy, secure dog.

Sailor showed some interest in the small dog that he was introduced to, but didn't want to share his food with her. Also, he was quite worried about the large dog he was introduced to, so he should either be the only dog or, if there's another dog in the house, the other dog should be about his size, and all meal times and high-value objects should be well managed. Who knows? He might get along with your dog-savvy cat, if appropriate introductions are made.

This little Sailor is looking for his ship to sail him home. He's a sweet boy who has a lot of love to give, if you'll just give him the chance.

Jasper

Italian Greyhound/French Bulldog
Neutered
Male - 5Mths 2Wks (approx)
Color White / Grey

A Little Bit About Me

Jasper is handsome and elegant, as only a small dog can be. He has not had much socialization in his young life so his adopters will have to start a program of exposing him to all the sights, sounds, smells, and situations that he will encounter during the rest of his life. Enrolling him in a small dog training class will go a long way to establishing a bond with him and give him confidence to face the world.

Jasper is still getting used to things so go slowly with him. He is coping well with experiences such as having his nails trimmed and temperature taken. Reward generously to help him accept these procedures as a normal part of life. We found out Jasper loves apples, even better than treats, so this will help with training. He is curious about everything and is trying hard to understand his new life. He has a sunny outlook and is eager to learn new things. He wants to be a special part of your family.

Happy

Chihuahua/Rat Terrier
Neutered
Male - 1Yrs 6Mths (approx)
Color White / Red Brown
Not Suitable for Children

A Little Bit About Me

Happy came to us all the way from the Tehama County Shelter through our Pet Partnership Program. He is playful, sweet, adoring and smart.

Since Happy used to have some 'issues' with handling here, we suggest you work with him to be sure he is comfortable in more situations. We discovered that he is receptive to the 'cream cheese' method of making him even more happy about handling. Talk with one of our behavior staff about this. We recommend an adult home without children visiting because of his lack of tolerance.
In fact Happy is very food motivated and builds trust once he is secure with you. He will be a great dog in classes, where he could be the Star.

We are not sure that Happy approves of many dogs, and could be naughty with dogs he things are 'too big'. He definitely would enjoy being an only dog and having his family's full attention.

We couldn't help but have a good time with the little lad, because he is really sweet, snuggly and fun.

Casper

Chihuahua/Whippet
Neutered
Male - 1Yrs 2Wks (approx)
Color Cream

A Little Bit About Me

Casper comes to us as an owner surrender. His first owner lost their home and the second did not have time for Casper. He is now looking for a forever home he can call his own. Casper is a sweet, cute, energetic little guy who loves toys and tug games but is a little unsure of new people and situations. This is probably due to lack of early socialization. Casper most likely did not have a lot of experience with people and stable dogs in his first 12 weeks of life. He is still young so some of those deficiencies can still be made up. Casper is very intimidated by large dogs and barks at them to tell them to go away. He is better with dogs his own size but it still takes him time to become comfortable with them. Once he is comfortable he is fine and will play. Casper does, however, prefer people to other canines. Dog parks are not the place for Casper. His exercise should be long walks with his owner and toy games such as tug. Introduce Casper to lots of new experiences slowly. Use positive reinforcement to make these experiences pleasant. Let him take things at his pace and don't put too much pressure on him. Sign him up for a Family Dog I class. Classes are great for building confidence and a bond with a new adopter

Casper really likes high value chews and is somewhat possessive of them. He is willing to trade for something better but it may be best not to allow him things he finds very important. Because of this he is not appropriate for small children. Older kids ages 16 and up should be fine. A pre-adoption consultation is required to discuss this issue.

Casper is a really sweet dog who given some time and consistent leadership should make a wonderful lifelong companion

Rainbow

Domestic Short Hair
Spayed
Female - 9Yrs 10Mths 3Wks (approx)
 Color Torbie / White

A Little Bit About Me

"Rainbow, have you been sitting in that fireplace all night?" Actually, this beautiful older torbie matches the temperament of one of Cinderella's stepsisters more than that of the fairy tale princess. However, that's only because she's a torbie, whose breed motto is often: "My way or the highway, bud!" This particular grand dame, with the colorful patches, is quite affectionate, sweet and interactive. She'll come visit you at the computer and adores being caressed, groomed and getting her chin rubbed. She was also very tolerant during her medical ablutions, letting out nary a peep. The fact that she hasn't shown her shadow side doesn't mean she might not. Check out that tail! If it goes, whip, whip like a metronome set at "Allegro," it's time to back off. She also doesn't suffer other cat fools gladly. She'll do better as sole proprietor of her guardian's heart. Rainbow is the kind of cat who will pad into the room and you will feel her presence. She's a great gift to the world.

Sharona

Domestic Short Hair
Spayed
Female - 2Yrs 6Mths
Color Grey / White

A Little Bit About Me

One minute Sharona was sitting on a window ledge happy and content and now she longs for those memories and the easy life.

Sharona is a bit on the shy side, like that really nice kid you knew in third grade who took a little while to get to know. Sharona will do best in a home with older children who can be patient and gentle with handling. A quiet room outfitted with all of her necessities will be the best place to introduce Sharona to the household. Be patient. When Sharona seems comfortable, let her explore this space and engage in some play with a wand teaser or other toys. Spend plenty of time snuggling and cuddling together. Soon Sharona will be ready to explore the rest of the house. Before you know it Sharona will be entertaining you and all your friends with her playful kitten antics.

                 ZULU                   and                      NANDI

Zulu & Nandi

Nandi
Domestic Short Hair
Sex Female Color Black
Spayed
Age 9Mths

Zulu
Domestic Short Hair
Neutered
Male - 9Mths
Color Black / White

A Little Bit About Us

Zulu and his sister, Nandi are best friends who are looking for a quiet home to share together. Both of these young cats are quite shy initially and look to each other for comfort and security. While in a loving foster home, they lived with several resident dogs as well as other cats. However, the high activity and energy levels of visiting young children sent them into hiding until calm was restored. Therefore we feel that a serene environment with a family who can give them time to settle in while offering gentle attention will allow this handsome pair to blossom into lovely and loving companions. Zulu and Nandi might enjoy the friendship of kind cat-savvy children aged 10 years and above.

Give Zulu and Nandi a small room of their own for a few weeks as they get accustomed to their new surrounding. This "safe haven" should have their food and water bowls, litter box, cozy beds for snuggling together, maybe a cardboard box for security, appropriate scratching boards/posts and some fun toys- crumpled paper balls, soft things to bat around. Don't be surprised if they hide at first. Visit them often and stay awhile-reading a book aloud or playing soft music is often soothing. Slowly drag a feathery wand toy to engage them in play and help them get to know you. Introduce other family members slowly. Let them show you when they feel ready to explore more area in your home, but keep an eye on them and leave the way open for them to return to their "safe haven".

Your loving patience now will be rewarded when Zulu and Nandi are cuddled up on the bed or sofa with you, enjoying all the family activities and purring with happiness.

Desiree

Domestic Short Hair
Spayed
Female - 1Yrs 6Mths
Color Tabby

A Little Bit About Me

Desiree is a cautious girl who is looking for a serene home with a family who will give her the time to blossom under their gentle care. She came to us with her 2 kittens, but is now ready for a home of her own. It will be important to start Desiree out initially with a small room as her safe haven. It should be equipped with food, water, and a litter box. When Desiree comes to you as you enter the room, she will be ready to explore a larger space. We recommend that you go slowly so she isn't too overwhelmed and provide her the opportunity to return to her safe haven. While in foster care she lived with older grade school children and would probably do fine with older cat savvy children.

Sparky

Domestic Short Hair
Neutered
Male - 9Yrs 6Mths (approx)
Color Orange Tabby

A Little Bit About Me

Sparky may have been a real firecracker in his day, but right now, he's more like a glowing candle. He definitely needs a regular visit to Weight Watchers and once he sheds a few pounds, he may regain some of his vim and vigor. His previous owner reported that he was playful and confident, so once he settles in to his new home, he may once more find his "spark." Sparky really enjoys his kibble and bits, so he may become insistant (his owner reported he would become nippy) as to when to be fed. Stick by your guns and don't give in; his diet is very important to making him a healthy, happy cat.

When you first bring Sparky home, give him a room to himself so he can get his bearings and learn the ropes. Be sure he has a big litter box because he is a big kitty and we want him to get his aim down perfectly. A comfy bed, some toys and a scratching post will complete his required furnishings, and before long he will be very interested in getting to know you better. Spend plenty of time with this big redhead and soon he will be sharing his glow and warmth and be your best friend ever.

Charlie

Domestic Short Hair
Neutered
Male - 12Yrs 2Mths (approx)
Color Buff Tiger / White

A Little Bit About Me

Charlie is reminiscent of those old-fashioned orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream bars. He has a beautiful soft orange and white coat that is handsomely marked with classic tabby swirls. Charlie is here because his guardian of ten years had to move into an assisted living facility. Adjusting to the noise and activity of shelter life has been very difficult for Charlie: What in the world happened to his nice peaceful home and his special person???

Charlie is shy by nature, so you can just imagine how much he would like to hide and hope that when he emerges from his hiding place the world as he knew it will be restored! But that is not to be. So the next best thing for Charlie would be a new home with a quiet atmosphere where he can live safely inside as the treasured companion of someone with a warm lap and a gentle hand. Given time, Charlie will respond to your attention with head bumps and even some biscuit-making. However, it is likely that Charlie will always want to hide if anything about his home life is disrupted. Charlie will need a number of weeks to adjust, so start him out in a quiet room with all of his kitty accoutrement, especially one or more beds or hiding boxes where he can feel safe. Visit him often. He will find it hard to resist your petting and attention. In time, Charlie should be ready to explore the rest of his new home, but always know that he will need a safe place to hide: a closet, a cupboard, or the space beneath a bed. If you are drawn to the shy and retiring type, then Charlie would love to be your one-and-only.

William

Domestic Short Hair
Neutered
Male - 2Yrs 10Mths 3Wks
Black / White

A Little Bit About Me

Sweet shy William is a bit overwhelmed to find himself looking for his forever home once again. Originally adopted from MHS as a kitten 3 years ago, now his guardian has had to move and is unable to take William along. He has lived a quiet life in an adults only home. He got along well with 2 other cats, but has no experience with children. Given his shy nature, we feel that William would not enjoy the activity level of young children and would do best in a calm and quiet home with adults or a family with older children who would be sensitive and understanding about William's needs.
William would appreciate a small room of his own for a few weeks as he settles into life with you and learns your routine. This "safe haven" should have all his kitty essentials and include a cozy cave-like bed or box to give him a sense of security and a place to hide until he feels comfortable. Visit him often, sit with him, offer a feathery wand toy to engage him in play. Let him come to you for attention when he feels ready. Your gentle patience now will be rewarded by a lifetime of affection and friendship for years to come. Help William to discover that "love is lovelier the second time around"

Jelly Bean

Domestic Short Hair
Neutered
Male - 6Yrs (approx)
Color Black

A Little Bit About Me

When Jelly Bean sees red - a red pen, that is - he's on it! This handsome and silky black cat must have retriever in his ancestry because he amused his former guardians by chasing after red pens and bringing them back. He also seemed to enjoy whacking the long Q-tip swab during his evaluation, so perhaps sticks are his shtick. That's his playful side. He also has a serious, contemplative and quite shy side, as evidenced by his spending lots of his time hiding under his bed here at the shelter. Scared of both dogs and children, he'll really shine in a quiet, monastic life where he doesn't have a prayer of running into that rambunctious crowd. Gentle Jelly Bean is very affectionate and loves to be groomed and caressed. His former guardians call him "a loyal companion who needs time to adjust." Also, he's reportedly a top-flight snuggler. Color Jelly Bean's world and bring him home.

Tigger - 177343

Domestic Medium Hair
Neutered Male
Male - 2Yrs
Color Brown Tabby
Weight 16.6 lbs

A Little Bit About Me

Tigger arrived here from an overcrowded shelter in Northern California thanks to our wonderful Pet Partnership team. This BIG handsome tabby is still not sure about this arrangement, but he has shown us glimpses of the sweet, affectionate boy he will be in his new home. At the moment, he is a little on the shy side. But he does enjoy being petted and groomed, and if you listen closely, you can hear his soft purr. Tigger's new family MUST have the time to comb or brush his coat every day to keep it from developing painful mats and tangles. He is more than happy to cooperate with this ritual. In fact, he was quite tolerant of being handled during his evaluation.

We think Tigger will do well with polite and respectful grade school children who understand how to pet and hold him. Holding him, however, might be a bit of a challenge since he arrived here a tad on the chunky side. Increase his activity level by enticing him with a feathery wand toy or a crinkly paper ball to chase, and cut back on his calories so he can regain his youthful physique. Given lots of time to settle into his new home, we think Tigger will make some lucky family a wonderful kitty companion.

SABRINA - 175601

Domestic Short Hair
Spayed
Female - 1Yrs 3Mths 4Wks
Color Brown Tabby

A Little Bit About Me

It's fair to say that beautiful Sabrina is ready to sail out of here to her new home. She has had enough of lying around on her lofty, comfy bed, with dainty paw hanging off, counting the days when a prospective new guardian recognizes just how wonderful she is. Friendly and docile - unless you try to pet her back and then she gets a little uppity - this delicate little lady loves sitting next to you and getting her head and chin rubbed. She may seem a little circumspect when you first meet her - she may be "too busy napping," as one Pet Pal wrote. But we bet that when you have her attention and gain her trust, all she'll want to do is curl up with you and watch old Audrey Hepburn movies. And once comfortable in her surroundings, she can be "fierce" with the feather toys. She may also roll upside-down for a little belly action. You may notice her ear is a bit tattered. Apparently in her past she and a neighbor cat mixed it up. Here at the shelter, the Pet Pals report she runs hot and cold with other cats. Perhaps making her an indoor, one-and-only cat will stave off future flying fur. P.S. - Sabrina loves Reiki energy. She's what Reiki practitioners call a "sponge."

Brandy
Color Point Persian Cross
Spayed
Female - 7Yrs 9Mths 1Wks (approx)
Color Flame Point / White
Weight 10.5 kg

No Children or other pets

A Little Bit About Me

Brandy is a sniffer and a sun-worshipper! Any chance this golden-furred Rapunzel gets, she ekes out a patch of sunlight, takes a load off her little cat feet and naps.

And she loves to nose around books, computers, the kitchen (that's in case there's a tasty treat nearby).

But everything wasn't always coming up roses for Brandy. She was shy, withdrawn and untrustworthy of people, but she has now come out of her shell, thanks to loving foster care. She'll affectionately head butt you, purr like a motorboat and belt out (a la Merman) a nice, loud meow. Her locks are gorgeous - they'll need regular brushing to stay that way. She's not a big fan of sitting on laps or of other animals. Previously at the shelter, when she saw other cats, she'd turn into a kitty Godzilla. So, she's going to need a peaceful, animal - and child-free environment for her retirement years. So, what do you say? Life can't get any better than putting your feet up with a Brandy cat nearby.

Miss Charlotte

Domestic Medium Hair
Spayed
Female - 6Yrs

A Little Bit About Me

Get ready for a good dose of Southern hospitality when you visit with Miss Charlotte. This dainty and gorgeous grey grooms her paw in the most genteel way, then slowly finds her way to your lap for some petting. The slow life is Miss Charlotte's desire - sipping a kitty mint julip and swinging on a hammock would do just fine. The Pet Pals often have to coax her out of her condo since she really likes it in there. Soft and very sweet, this green-eyed beauty also has a nose for investigation. She'll sniff and sniff and sniff every inch of an object until she knows exactly what it's about. Then she'll turn her attentions on you. She does enjoy a good play session with the wand toys but don't even think about bringing other cats around. She doesn't like them, no m'am, not at all. Miss Charlotte is a true "Steel Magnolia" so make sure she gets her fur brushed regularly and her claws clipped at her new home's beauty salon.

Mimi
Bengal cross
Spayed
Female - 1Yrs 6Mths 2Wks
Color Brown Tabby

A Little Bit About Me

Sweet, shy Mimi has lived several of her feline lives already, and yet she is still a young cat. Last year Mimi was brought to an animal shelter with tiny newborn kittens, and she was barely older than a kitten herself. She was adopted a few months later, but in short order she was brought here. This lovely girl really needs a new start on life, so we are hoping to find her the purrfect home.

Because Mimi is the shy and retiring type, she will do best in an adult home with a cat-savvy family. She is likely to hide for quite some time. Set her up in a small, quiet room with a soft, cozy bed with high sides -- she needs to feel safe. Visit her often. You can place her bed on your lap and she will stay curled up there while you groom and pet her. Talk to her quietly; she will certainly enjoy your company and the attention you provide. After a few days or weeks Mimi may show an interest in exploring beyond the safety of her room. Allow her to do so under your supervision and always make sure she can find her way back.

We are sure that Mimi will become devoted to her family, but realize that she may always need to hide when people come to visit. If you can provide a quiet, loving home for this nice young cat, she will begin to thrive and show you her very sweet nature.

George

Domestic Short Hair
Neutered
Male - 7Yrs (approx)
Color Brown Tabby / White

A Little Bit About Me

George is a big, affectionate and confident boy. He has a large personality and is quite addicted to the outdoors. George does not want to share his territory with other felines. In George's ideal world he would have safe access to the outdoors, perhaps a large, cat-fenced property to explore without other kitties nearby, or an outdoor enclosure. George is not reticent about sharing his opinions and can be quite the conversationalist. He is a good hunter and this seems to be a main source of entertainment for him. He particularly likes to have his ears rubbed and have his cheeks scratched. George enjoys hanging out near you, but laps might not be his thing.

Raven

Pug/Terrier
Spayed
Female - 2Yrs 6Mths (approx)
Color Black / White

A Little Bit About Me

Raven has just enough Pug in her pedigree to give her the cutest face, and enough Terrier to provide her with some spunk! She came to us from Kern County through our Pet Partnership Program. Raven loves to interact with people. She also enjoys toys, and the combination of people and toys is heaven. If her peeps are otherwise distracted, she entertains herself with the toys, so it's all good. Her new family should supply her with a large basket of toys and balls to meet her needs.

Because Raven dislikes sharing her special people with other (not special) people or dogs we recommend she live with mature people over 14. We can show you some easy tricks to help her learn that this behavior is not supported by you, which will dissuade her from future guarding. Raven should be an "only dog." The dog park is no place for her either; she wants to be with people instead.

Raven is a great candidate for education; motivate her with toys, food, and your happy voice. You will make great progress with her by being positive. When she learns that she can do things for you and she need not be worried about distractions (dogs), she will be really happy. This leggy beauty is waiting for the right family willing to help her out with her education. The lucky winners will enjoy this great companion for the rest of her life.

Color White / Black

OK with Dogs

A Little Bit About Me

Hound lovers alert, a sweet youngster like Riley is a rare find here in Marin County. Riley was previously adopted by a family who was unable to meet her unique hound needs for exercise and a job to do.

Riley is a scent hound, which means that her nose is even more of a primary sense to her than to most other dogs. If you live in an apartment or have close neighbors, Riley may not be the dog for you. She has an awesome, clear, loud bay that is characteristic of her breed and will be heard over quite a distance. They used to say that hounds couldn't be trained easily. Not true! Motivational training with a dog who lives for food... not hard at all. Enroll her in a training class and then go for a sport like scent work, agility, or other such activity that will not only engage her senses, but tire her out at the end of the day. Remember, a tired hound is a good hound.

Riley is good-natured and loves people, although she may seem a bit aloof. Her nose takes precedent in her life and she will follow a scent despite other distractions, like you calling her to come. Her beauty makes Riley very attractive but be sure you do your homework and decide if you are able to meet this lovely girl's needs. Have fun with Riley!

Sofia

Breed Terrier Cross
Sex Female
Color Grizzle
Weight 17.9 lbs
Spayed

A Little Bit About Me

This cute little fuzz ball has a great personality, particularly around people. Her life started out like a Robert Heinlein novel "Stranger in a Strange Land". She was found in an area over run by stray dogs and taken to a crowded shelter. Then one day Sophia made the long journey to Marin in search of a dog savvy family who understands her unique qualifications and sees her potential.

She is a lively sharp-witted, youngster who is courageous and outgoing particularly around other dogs. She may become a fearless defender if her owners do not teach her the proper rules, boundaries and limitations. This means she needs an experienced dog savvy household with older 10+ children. We have an excellent team of behavior consultants ready to help explain her challenges and ways to redirect her energy and focus. Sofia is leash reactive and pushy with other dogs, to a point we don't feel dog parks are appropriate. The good news is she is food motivated, loves people and likes the outdoors and long walks. One of the hand-outs we have talks about keeping her focused on you by stimulating her mind with treats or feeding her on the trail with games like "find-it". This will be a work in progress but never the less something that must be addressed.

Sophia wants her family to have a good sense of humor and yet still be willing to give her the proper guidance and structure by using positive reinforcement, love and affection. She has amazing potential; she just needs someone like you to show her the way

Pink - 177284

Chihuahua/Terrier
Age 1 year
Sex Female
Color Tan / Red
Spayed
Size Small

A Little Bit About Me

Pink is guaranteed to make you happy. She is so playful, and her play style is a riot. Toys, balls, wiggling your fingers above the floor; you name it, Pink has a fun time chasing, catching, tossing, chewing, leaping, bouncing, running and snuggling.

Pink is not comfortable with other dogs. At this point in her life she would prefer to skip the issue altogether and just live a happy life with humans.

Her new family should be dog savvy enough to help her out when meeting strangers. Give Pink the choice to approach them, and have them wait for her approach down at her level, without staring at her. She overcomes her shyness easily with just that little bit of help. At the end of the day, Pink would prefer a home where she does not have to meet strangers often. But sometimes would be ok. A quieter environment would be perfect. Oh, and Pink will enjoy two short but interesting walks daily.

For a fun dog friend, check out Pink. She will be perfect entertainer and your best friend

Top Hat

Chihuahua cross
Neutered
Male - 2Yrs (approx)
Color Black / Cream

A Little Bit About Me

Top Hat is a dapper little guy who's looking for a home to call his own. He's a friendly fellow but can get a bit worried if he's loomed over or grabbed at... he's a small dog, after all, and the world is a very big place!

He likes to play with toys and even has the beginning of the retrieve! He's a smart dog who loves treats, so he should be a lot of fun to train. Enroll him in our Small Dog 1 class and, once he's gotten a few obedience classes under his collar, we think he'd love to take a Tricks class with you.

Top Hat liked the dogs he was introduced to and would likely enjoy joining a home with another dog, provided a suitable match is made. We don't know how he would be with a cat but, with a slow introduction, he might think a kitty friend would be a great thing. We suggest that children be over 10 and respectful of his physical sensitivities.

TIGGER ROO - ID#A277353

Hi, I'm Tigger Roo. I was adopted from the shelter last year. My person is moving and can't take me. I'm a very quiet girl, my person called me a "Love Bug". I love to watch birds through the window 'cause I wasn't allowed outside and I'm great with the whole litter box thing. It was just me, no dogs or cats but the cats here at the shelter don't bother me.

I am a female, brown tabby domestic medium hair.
I am estimated to be about 1 year old.
I have been at the shelter since 05/02/2013.

Pooh Bear

Breed Domestic Short Hair Cross
Sex Male
4Yrs 6Mths 1Wks (approx)
Color Brown Tabby

A Little Bit About Me

Pooh Bear is a honey of a classic tabby with a mind of his own. This magnificent fellow is very affectionate and hugely playful. The latter is especially good since he's a little hefty and could use the exercise! Pooh bounced back to the shelter because he and the resident cat at his previous home got into tussles, so we suggest Pooh have his own little corner of your house (not "The Hundred Acre Woods") and no competition for love. Pooh Bear is social, vocal - especially at dinnertime - and very friendly; however, we suggest not trying to pick him up too many times or groom his toes and ears too often. Pooh can't bear that. He truly enjoys playing with wand toys and is not bashful about jumping up on counters or window sills to check things out! Charming Pooh Bear is looking for a storybook ending. Are you his Christopher Robin?

Mia

Breed Spaniel Cross
Sex Female
Color Black / White
Spayed
Age 6Yrs (approx)

A Little Bit About Me

Bonita Mia came to Marin Humane Society from Mexico through our Pet Partnership Program and Compassion Without Borders. She was a street dog there, but from now on she is a very loved companion looking for her perfect family.

Mia acts very mellow and calm. She is still a little shy and not sure of the new language here. She appears to have some idea about sitting for attention though, and should be fun to train. She loves her treats, which will make the training game go easily.

Because Mia can be frightened at times by new noises and people who approach her too quickly or directly, children over 10 who are mature enough to observe her reactions and react appropriately will do best with her.

Nina

Breed Chihuahua
Sex Female
Color Black / Tan Points
Spayed
 Age 1Yrs 6Mths

A Little Bit About Me

This little angel has her whole life ahead of her. Nina is calm, gentle and shy with soft eyes and a big heart. Like many of us, she arrived with some baggage. Having a clear understanding of who she is will make her adoption process easier. She probably did not have the proper exposure to other dogs and people as a youngster.

In her previous home she lived with another dog; however being timid and not learning to share caused issues. For this reason we believe living in an adult only household as an only dog would be in her best interest. When introducing her to new friends, ask them to get down on her level so she can choose to approach them and feel more comfortable. To ensure Nina's bright future, please meet with one of our behavior consultants to discuss any questions you might have.

Nina wants the same things we all do - a safe place to call home, mental and physical exercise and a life long relationship built on trust and respect.

Mister Jack

Breed Jack Russell Terrier Cross
Sex Male
Color White / Tan
Weight 12.6 lbs
Neutered
Age 3Yrs (approx)

A Little Bit About Me

Mister Jack comes to us as an unclaimed stray. Although he may be a little wary of strangers on first meeting he warms up quickly and is a very sweet little dog. There is some indication he didn't get the best care in his previous home so he is now looking for someone to give him the love and attention he deserves. Jack was good with both large and small dogs he met here and should make a fine second dog in the household. He was also good with handling but due to his initial shyness we think he will do best with respectful kids at least 10 years old. Mister Jack's exercise requirement should not be excessive. A couple of long walks around the neighborhood per day should do it.

If you are looking for a nice little dog and you have a good home to share, take a look at Mister Jack; you may just fall in love.

Yoshi

Breed Siamese Cross
Sex Male
Color Seal Point
Neutered
Age 5Yrs 2Wks

 A Little Bit About Me

Yoshi is looking for a new home because his owner is no longer able to care for him. He's a big, bold handsome fellow who wants to life live on his own terms, but at the same time he is quite accepting of a little loving. Yoshi enjoys being groomed and having his cheeks scratched, and will occasionally offer you a head bump or two. He seemed very interested in the feathery wand toy we offered him, so this would be a great way to "break the ice" and get to know each other better.

Yoshi is best suited for older grade school children 10+ who won't insist on holding and restraining him. Have them play together with toys, instead. We suspect Yoshi will want to have all the finer things in life like a scratching post, a spot in the house to enjoy the sun and perhaps a kitty condo to climb on. But what he wants most of all is to be a cherished member of your family.

Licorice

Breed Domestic Short Hair
Sex Male
Color Black
Neutered
Age 1Yrs 1Mths (approx)

A Little Bit About Me

Handsome Licorice has arrived in Marin from one of our Pet Partnerships to find a forever loving home. We've noticed here at the shelter that Licorice is somewhat noise sensitive and may startle and even try to hide when encountering new situations. We feel that he will do best in calm and quiet surroundings with adults or a family with older cat-savvy children who can understand the need to go slowly as Licorice settles in.
A small room of his own for a week or so will help Licorice adapt to his new family and routine. In addition to all his kitty essentials, he will appreciate a box or cozy bed for comfort and security. Wand toys will help playful and curious Licorice bond with you and your family. His rumbly purr lets you know that you are making all the right moves. Your gentle patience and time now will allow Licorice to blossom into an affectionate companion for years to come.

Jimmy

Breed Domestic Short Hair
Sex Male
Color Black / White
Neutered
Age 7Yrs 11Mths

A Little Bit About Me

Handsome Jimmy has quite a tale to tell. Adopted with his brother as kittens, he lived happily with the family until his brother passed away. Lonely for companionship he was adopted by another family, but the resident cat did not care for Jimmy and bullied him. We think Jimmy might enjoy the company of a mellow resident cat or even a calm and gentle dog, if proper introductions were made slowly and carefully. The hustle and bustle of small children would not be Jimmy's cup of tea as he is a bit shy and skittish at first. He would fit well into a home with adults or a family with older children 10 and above who would give him gentle attention (he loves chin rubs) and time to get comfortable. He is affectionate and playful once he is relaxed.

Give Jimmy a small room of his own for a few days or weeks as he settles in and gets familiar with the family routine. Offer him a cozy bed or box for hiding and security along with all his kitty essentials. He does like to be up high, so a cat tree, window shelf or bookcase would give him a "penthouse" view of his new home with you. Let him tell you when he is ready to explore the rest of the house. It won't be long before he is seeking out your lap for extended cuddles and petting or hanging out nearby observing the family activities. Help Jimmy discover that it is never too late to find love and a forever home- yours?

Ginger - 106816

Domestic Short Hair
Spayed
Female - 6Yrs 6Mths 1Wks Type Cat
Color Torbie

A Little Bit About Me

Ginger was adopted as a kitten and lived in a household that included children, her sister Lucy - 106815, and a dog.

Her previous owner indicates that Ginger was not overly fond of active young children, so she would be pleased to be in a home that is calmer and a little quieter, which could certainly include children who are somewhat older. She is a bit shy, but she warms up quickly, rubbing against your leg and welcoming pets.

When you first bring her home, confine her to a small area with her bed, food and water, toys, scratching post and litter box. Allow her to explore the rest of your house as she's ready. It won't take this gentle girl very long to be ready to explore your world!

Lucy -106815

Domestic Short Hair
Spayed
Female - 6Yrs 6Mths 2Wks
Color Brown Tabby

A Little Bit About Me

Lovely Lucy is hoping that love is even better the second time around. She was adopted from MHS as a kitten but has returned because her previous guardian has moved where cats are not welcome.

Lucy has lived compatibly with a dog and another cat- her sister Ginger - 106816. She and Ginger get along but do not have to be adopted together. If you are looking for two companionable cats with a history of living together, Lucy and Ginger would be an excellent choice. On the other hand, Lucy might enjoy being the sole object of your attention and affection. A serene adult home or a family with older, quiet children might just be Lucy's cup of tea.

A little shy at first, it will not take her long to warm up and start to offer gentle leg rubs and solicit pets. Lucy purrs readily and will "make biscuits" while snuggling in a comfy lap. How "purrfect" is that!
