Dogs at Shelters

Do you see a dog you like?
In addition to giving us a call,
Fill out our online adoption application and we'll be in touch with you soon.

There are many more dogs available than are profiled on this page.  As with all rescue groups, we constantly hear of other dogs in need of homes, and, while we try to update our web site regularly, getting photographs taken, film developed, and photos scanned for uploading onto the web site takes time. If you don't see the kind of dog you're looking for, please don't hesitate to call us. On a daily basis, we are in touch with shelters, pounds, humane societies, and other rescue organizations. While we will always recommend the hearty mutt, we will not hesitate to direct you toward a organization that works specifically with pure bred dogs, if that is your interest. Most pure breed organizations have members who are concerned with the rescue of that particular breed. If a mutt does not strike your fancy, we strongly encourage you to rescue, rather than buy outright, purebred dogs whenever possible. Our philosophy is: Don't Buy. Don't Breed. Rescue!!!

Important Note: While the dogs on this page need a home, they are relatively safe from the threat of euthanasia.  The dogs at the highest risk are the pound dogs on page 3. The pound doggies only have a short amount of time in which to be adopted, or they will be killed.  We ask that you consider the shelter dogs first.  Thanks.

Captain Jake is an 8 yr young, neutered male, black tri-colored purebred Australian Shepherd.

This guy is one huge teddy bear. Unfortunately, until he was rescued, he spent most of his former life in a chain link dog kennel, which explains his intense desire for attention and affection.

Jake is wiggly, bubbly, happy, and is eager to meet all new dogs.

He is curious about cats, tho not intense with them. His current foster mom has livestock, and while Jake has shown interest, he is not obsessive.

Jake is currently being crated inside at night and is okay. His recall is fair to good and with some work, should be fine.

Jake is fine with kids and strangers, tho older children would be best, as he might overwhelm toddlers or small children.

He is a big fan of kisses, mostly when he is giving them!

Jake and Rosee are both diamonds in the rough, but their huge desire for love will help speed the polishing process.

(11/26/07)

Miss Rosee is an 8 yrs young, spayed female, blue merle, purebred Australian Shepherd with two blue eyes. This girl had also spent most of herformer life (except when taken out for a walk), in a six ft. by six ft. (divided in half) chain link enclosure with a cement pad and plywood roof. She too, is starved for attention and affection.

She is a toy and ball dog. She was recently spayed, so we haven't had much of an opportunity to test out her skills.

Rosee is very spry and agile. She will need some work on her leash and obedience skills; she was used for breeding and didn't get a lot of the family dog training basics.

Rosee is currently being fostered in a home with cats, and as long as they don't run, she doesn't chase. She is somewhat alpha, at least with Jake.

The more Rosee gets settled into a non-kennel life, the more she calms down and looks forward to her bright future as a family member.

(03/20/08)
Belle is an approximately 3 yr old, spayed, red female Shepherd mix.

Belle is a very easy dog in terms of her energy level. It's moderate to low, yet she is bouncy when excited, doesn't jump on people, but springs up with excitement and sheer glee. Her tail wags wildly and she dances when she sees her people.

The right home for her will be one of little drama and trauma-quiet, simple, calm and grounded. She picks up on tension and hectic activity; hence, she becomes a worried and nervous dog.

Belle is happy-go-lucky, and just seems to love life. She is good with other dogs, yet her exuberance can be unsettling (at first) for a less-secure dog, or one who doesn't want to be her play pal. She is good with all animals.

She is housebroken, affectionate, eager to learn and wanting to please. She likes to go for car rides and has good recall.

Belle will be an exceptional addition to the right person/family.

Jessie is a 1 yr old, neutered, male, red-speckled Australian Cattle Dog with a full tail. He is very sweet and soft.

Jessie is eager to please and quick to learn. He hasn't had a lot of training so will need a patient and positive person.

He is good with children, livestock and other dogs.

More Dang Dogs on Page Two

Page two contains photos and bios of dogs available through our 3rd party/assisted adoption program. This is a service that NBCR&P offers to dogs other than those in our care who are in need of homes. While we generally do not take in dogs surrendered by private parties, we do what we can to assist in the placement of these animals. We do, however, strongly encourage people to explore every possible alternative to surrendering their pets. (See our Last Resort section.)

For more information about our assisted private adoption guidelines, please proceed to page two.

There are many more dogs available.
Please call us and we will gladly discuss your adoption options
and help you decide which dog, if any, is best for your lifestyle.
